Galaxy Café

Galaxy Cafe | Fb

Never a bad idea to stop into a great, casual neighborhood restaurant, with good food, comfortable ambience and friendly staff. Especially when they cater so well to those in the gluten-free community. Galaxy Café has an extensive separate gluten-free menu featuring items like burgers on gluten free buns, sandwiches on gluten free bread, wraps served on rice tortillas, salads, and even flourless chocolate torte and creme brule dessert options. The best part is that they have a dedicated fryer and an entirely separate grill just for gluten-free orders. They will also prepare dishes in separate cookware if the meal requires it.

Galaxy Cafe | Fb

The most popular gluten-free dishes include the club wrap and Galaxy Buddha Bowls made with a blend of meats, veggies, and brown rice pilaf. To ensure your dish is safely prepared, the Galaxy Café team encourages you to let your server know if you’re celiac or have any allergies “because our kitchen is not 100% dedicated as gluten-free, we want to ensure that the options you choose from this menu are safe. Further modifications can be made for varying sensitivity levels.”

The Steeping Room

The Steeping Room | Fb

Tea time is any time at The Steeping Room, and fortunately for gluten-free patrons, there’s plenty of GF pastries and sandwiches to accompany. Regardless of whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, or sunday brunch, there’s something for everyone. While they take additional steps to reduce cross-contamination—like using different bowls and utensils when baking and preparing foods, storing GF pastries on a separate shelf, and substituting rice bread for sandwiches—it’s important to keep in mind The Steeping Room team is not dedicated GF. Dishes can be prepared “GFF = can be made gluten free friendly” and the “production and storage areas contain nuts, wheat, soy, dairy and a variety of common allergens. You must let your server know if you need GFF or vegan preparation or have any other dietary needs.” With that in mind, here’s just a small taste of what you can expect:

The Steeping Room | Fb

Catfish Parlour

At its location in North Austin, Catfish Parlour serves up a southern favorite—GF fried catfish—in great gluten-free fashion. Fresh, American farm raised catfish fillets are rolled in fresh yellow cornmeal and flash fried in a dedicated fryer. Most of the salad bar has gluten-free options. Avoid the fries since they do contain flour. Fortunately, the fries, along with the non GF fried fish, are prepared in a separate fryer/separate oil than the GF catfish.
